ABOUT BRENDA:
Huntsville and Island Lake resident, Brenda Behan Turnour began studying art at the age of eight, in a church basement in Orillia, where she was taught by Arthur Shilling of Rama, one of Canada's premier aboriginal artists. She subsequently sold her first oil painting at age twelve. Through her teen and early adult years, Brenda designed student council and Cancer Society posters, cards, party invitations, etc. but discovered that she preferred to paint/draw when the mood came upon her, rather than according to demand.
Brenda holds degrees from the University of Toronto and University of Caen, France where she won her first major art competition with pen and ink sketch of a 'manoir'.
In 1993, watercolours beckoned and since this time Brenda has been painting, teaching and entering juried shows on a full-time basis.
Brenda is Past President of the Central Ontario Art Association, and Past Vice-Chair of the Cambridge Arts & Culture Advisory Committee to Cambridge City Council, which created Cambridge's Arts and Culture Master Plan.
Among Brenda's many honours, is a nomination in 2003 for the K-W Regional Artist of the Year. In the spring of 2004 she was awarded the "Bernice Adams Award" as Cambridge's Artist of the Year"Any talent that I have is a gift from God and my inspiration is received from the joys and beauty of life, which constantly surprise and surround me."
